It was a hot August afternoon when Ms. Green announced, “Class, tomorrow is a very special day—National Banana Split Day!

The students perked up right away. Cal’s hand shot into the air.
“Does that mean we get ice cream in class?” he asked hopefully.

Ms. Green chuckled. “Not exactly. But we are going to learn the history of the banana split and make one together!”

The next day, the classroom turned into a mini ice cream shop. On the counter, Ms. Green placed long dishes, shiny spoons, bowls of whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and, of course, bright yellow bananas.

“Did you know,” Ms. Green began, “that the banana split was invented in 1904 by a pharmacy clerk named David Strickler? He was only 23 years old!”

“Whoa! That’s younger than my brother!” said Cal.

“Exactly,” Ms. Green smiled. “He sliced a banana in half, added three scoops of ice cream, and topped it with sauces and cherries. It became an instant hit.”

The students paired up to make their classroom banana split. Cal worked with his friend Zoey.
“I’ll cut the banana,” Cal said carefully.
“And I’ll pick the ice cream flavors,” Zoey replied. She scooped vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry into the dish.

Before long, every group had created its masterpiece. There were rainbow sprinkles, peanut butter drizzle, extra cherries, and even one with gummy worms!

As the class dug in, Ms. Green asked, “If you could invent a brand-new dessert like David Strickler, what would it be?”

Cal grinned, his spoon piled high with ice cream. “I’d make a Waffle Sundae Tower—waffles stacked with ice cream and syrup!”

The class laughed and cheered as they enjoyed their banana splits, already dreaming up the next big dessert invention.
