Speaking of sandcastles, National Day Classroom is unable to find the origins of Sandcastle Day; however, we did find that the art of making sandcastles dates back to ancient Egyptian and Greek civilizations.

Records indicate that building sand sculptures was often for religious ceremonial purposes. Professional sandcastle sculpting first emerged around 1897, when the very first sculpture contest was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
