A Classroom Annual Reading Plan: 52 Weeks of Classic Literature, Curated and Free

Dear Teachers and Curriculum Planners,

Finding high-quality, cost-effective, and engaging reading materials year after year is a significant challenge. The need to inspire students while meeting educational standards—all within a limited budget—is a constant balancing act.

We have developed a 100% Free resource to help address this issue.

Introducing the National Day Classroom Annual Reading List: a comprehensive, 52-week reading schedule that pairs classic public domain literature with the unique theme of a National Day. This program provides a full year’s worth of reading material from Project Gutenberg at absolutely no cost.

This resource was designed with the modern classroom in mind:

  • Cost-Effective: Leverages the vast, free access to the Project Gutenberg library, eliminating any financial barrier to accessing timeless literature.
  • Thematically Cohesive: Each weekly reading is anchored by a National Day (e.g., National Aviation Day, World Science Day), providing immediate context and a hook for student engagement.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: This list can serve as a primary reading curriculum, a supplement for advanced learners, a guide for independent study, or a resource for school-wide reading initiatives. The digital format allows for easy distribution and use on any device.
  • Writing Prompts Included! Each book on the list is inspired by a National Day and contains a thought-provoking writing prompt. This helps teachers help their students to become life-long thinkers!
  • Reduces Planning Time: By providing a curated selection of appropriate and engaging texts, we save you valuable time that can be redirected toward lesson preparation and student interaction.

An example from our list: For the week of National Inventors’ Day (February 11th), we suggest Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, opening up powerful discussions on creation, responsibility, and the ethics of science.

We invite you to explore this resource and see how it can fit into your educational goals for the coming year.
