December 2024

December ushers in winter holidays such as ChristmasKwanza, and Chanukah. It is also a time when families gather in the warmth of their homes. Throughout the month, our thoughts and actions turn toward charity and peace.

During the twelfth and final month of the year, December inspires a flurry of activity both in the business world and in our personal lives. Sales, shopping, family gatherings, school holidays, baking, and seasonal changes remind us of the past while we look to our futures.

But December is not so somber, peaceful, and busy as to have no fun at all. Holidays like Ugly Sweater Day, Answer the Phone Like Buddy the Elf Day, and National Ding-A-Ling Day add a bit of whimsey.

In order to kick off the month of December let’s start with this fun National Pie Day story mashup:

Right in the middle of the month is National Monkey Day. Monkeys are fascinating creatures. They are close cousins to the chimpanzee, another primate. This week, we invite you to explore what a monkey is and where they live.

  • At the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, discover all sorts of primates – monkeys, too! Explore their world, discover jobs that allow you to work with monkeys, and browse all kinds of photos.
  • What’s the difference between an ape, a chimpanzee, and a monkey? We’ll let Sciencemag.org explain.
  • Watch the Live Snow Monkey cam at the Detroit Zoo!

Plus, another fun coloring page with a monkey for your use – the Monkey Day Coloring Page.

More to come with December national Days and their corresponding lessons.
